Recently one of my yoga students so sadly passed very suddenly. It was such a shock to hear someone fit and able, enjoying life, was now no longer here. His energy in class was wonderful. New to yoga in the spring, he was a dedicated student - improving each week and always leaving with a beaming smile - despite his self-confessed grimaces during the lesson! I'll forever miss him in class - as will his yoga friends.
I feel like moments like this affirm why it's so important to enjoy every day and every moment you can - as cliche as it sounds - life is so precious.
It's so easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of life - getting so consumed with our own endeavours, frantically speeding through our to-do lists, we often forget that life is a journey to be enjoyed, not a schedule to keep to.
So savoring and gratitude are something I'm practicing which I invite you to join me in:
- Enjoy life in the present moment; take 10 minutes a day to do something you enjoy. I love taking walks in winter, hot tea on a cold day, and wrapping myself in all the blankets in Shavasana.
- Bring your attention to the senses while you're in the experience. Take in the detail of the the smells, textures, tastes and sounds. I also like to journal the experience in a diary or an app (like the Bliss app) - I love reading mine back.
- Savor our experiences on and off the mat; from those endorphin releasing moments when you release from a challenging pose, to the smell of lavender in the eye pillows just laying there, and those moments off the mat with your friends and family.
- Expressing gratitude to our bodies - thankful it's fit, strong and able to bring us to the mat. To breath and move.
I'm now taking some time under a duvet with a hot cup of tea writing this :)
Wishing you all some lovely blissful moments this week and over the festive period, and spending time with your loved ones.
